RecovOAR 3D Render

RecovOAR™ combines advanced membrane technologies into a fully integrated resource recovery process designed to maximize water reuse and extract value from challenging industrial streams. By strategically pairing ROAR™ reverse osmosis membranes with complementary technologies such as Forward Osmosis (FO) and Osmotically Assisted Reverse Osmosis (OARO), the system achieves higher concentration factors, greater water recovery, and reduced waste volumes compared to conventional approaches.

Engineered and manufactured at FTS H2O’s Center of Excellence in Albany, Oregon, RecovOAR™ provides a flexible platform for industrial brine management, water reuse, and resource recovery applications. The process is capable of treating high-salinity feedwaters approaching 180,000 mg/L TDS while operating at pressures up to 1,150 psi (80 bar), enabling facilities to recover valuable water and dissolved constituents while minimizing disposal requirements and lowering overall treatment costs.

How Does RecovOAR™ Work?

Osmotically assisted reverse osmosis (OARO) is a membrane process that combines hydraulic pressure with an osmotic gradient to sustain water flux at high salinities. By offsetting feed-side osmotic pressure with a controlled draw stream, OARO enables continued recovery where conventional RO becomes limited.

This allows for deeper brine concentration, improving overall system efficiency and making OARO a critical component in advanced, high-recovery treatment trains.

RecovOAR™ System Deployment:

Lithium Recovery in Qinghai, China

A leading lithium producer in Qinghai, China sought to improve lithium recovery while reducing reliance on extensive evaporation ponds traditionally used to concentrate brine. FTS H2O provided its RecovOAR™ OARO-based technology to concentrate high-salinity streams beyond 250 g/L TDS, creating a more efficient path to lithium carbonate production. The solution enabled production of approximately 4 tons per hour of lithium carbonate while eliminating the need for roughly 10 km² of evaporation ponds, helping maximize recovery and meet stringent purity requirements.
