Albany, OR – April 19, 2019 – FTS is pleased to announce the creation of a strategic partnership with Koch Membrane Systems (KMS) to provide forward osmosis (FO) solutions to customers in the Food, Beverage, and Life Sciences markets.
Product concentration with thermal technologies, such as evaporation, can degrade important characteristics of food and beverage products, such as color, flavor, aroma, and texture. By employing forward osmosis technology, producers of high value products can perform the concentration step at ambient temperature and at low pressure, in a manner that maintains a product’s intrinsic properties.
KMS will implement the FTS FO technology, including membranes and system designs, in their TIDAL FO product line. Systems are available to process food, beverage, or health product streams from 3 to 50 gallons per minute (GPM) or 1 – 10 m3/hour. Lab scale and pilot scale testing capabilities are available to aid potential customers in evaluating FO concentration of their products.
“We are fortunate to be able to work with the food and beverage industry leader Koch
Membranes and help them expand their membrane systems product offering, and to branch into this important and growing market with our FO technology,” commented Keith Lampi, FTS President. “The capabilities of our two companies are very well aligned when it comes to optimizing FO system design for applications in food, beverages, and life sciences. We can move forward quickly to meet the needs of customers in this space.”
The exclusive agreement with KMS strengthens FTS’s position in the Food and Beverages market. FTS is also active in industrial markets, focusing on water reuse and discharge minimization in the Chemical, Power, and Landfill Leachate sectors, and in agricultural markets, providing solutions to recover nutrients from biodigester waste streams.
